Uses of Remote Patient Monitoring for Hypertension Management

Hypertension increases the risk of stroke, cardiovascular diseases, and other serious illnesses making it important to keep it under control. However, poor blood pressure measurement techniques and less patient participation in managing blood pressure (BP) are some of the factors that hinder the adequate management of hypertension.

Remote patient monitoring proves to be a useful tool for patients suffering from high BP. Enrolling people in an RPM program allows people to regularly record their BP readings and make self-management easier. These readings are communicated to the care team in real-time. Thus, allowing providers to timely intervene before a manageable condition worsens into an emergency. Providers can also make better decisions using data-driven insights about a person’s BP trends. Tracking trends over time can help in spotting abnormalities like an increase in BP due to factors like exercise, stress, diet, etc. This enables the care team to formulate an improved plan and adjust medications.
