The healthcare system of India is enormous. However, there is a difference in the quality when it comes to urban and rural areas and private and public healthcare. Regardless of this difference, India is still considered to be a great place for medical tourists as the private hospitals relatively are of low costs and the best in quality. Students from other countries can easily depend on private healthcare centres for advanced care in India.
The Health Ministry of India was set up in 1947 with freedom from Britain. The government gives top priority to health as per its five-year plans. Each series of the plan shows the state expenditure in the coming years. In 1983, the National Health Policy was sanctioned by the parliament. As per the policy, there was healthcare coverage to be implemented by 2000 and in 2002, the program was updated.
Healthcare in India is mainly monitored by the states. The constitution of India gives each state a job to provide healthcare to its people. There is a lack of health coverage mostly in rural locations and people with the lowest incomes have no access to such facilities. Also, the majority of Indians especially both in rural and urban areas do not have health insurance. To address this issue, the launch of the Natural Rural Health Mission took place in 2005. The main objective of the mission was to check the resources available in poor and rural states in India with weaker healthcare services to improve the medical system in the poorest locations in India.
