Remote Patient Monitoring V/s Telehealth

1 Mins read

Any care that a doctor or clinician provides without having an in-person interaction with the patient comes under the broad umbrella of telehealth. Remote patient monitoring on the other end is a part of Telehealth and telemedicine. RPM is a part of telehealth that uses devices to transmit patient information outside the premises of a clinic.

While telehealth focuses on less in-person visits, RPM does not necessarily mean patients will never visit the clinic. The frequency of visits can be reduced as with help of technology, the patient’s body can be monitored. Telehealth in general illness can be a 100% replacement of in-person visits, but RPM on the other hand complements the in-person visits/routine visits that a patient has.

Both telehealth and remote patient monitoring are growing post COVID. This also is an opportunity to realize that using RPM with traditional in-person care can give better results as RPM can even be used in critical care.
