IoT-connected Medical Devices- Smart Contact Lens

IoT innovators have come up with smart contact lenses for health monitoring.

Since contact lenses are already widely used by millions for therapeutic or cosmetic purposes, they are well suited for a medical upgrade that can offer multifunctional applications.

Smart contacts can interact with the body’s internal chemistry through tear fluid which is high in protein and biomarkers. In fact, tear fluid can measure glucose levels making this wearable device potentially useful in diabetic diagnostics. Smart contacts can be used to treat Glaucoma by detecting changes in the users’ eyeballs and giving providers insight into the symptoms.

Other eye-related diseases like inflammation and dry eye could also be diagnosed and treated by monitoring blinking, light intensity, corneal temperature, and other variables using sensors. Various developments are underway to produce an ultrathin design for smart contact lenses that can allow comfort, transparency, biocompatibility, detection sensitivity, and the ability to analyze physiological symptoms.
