Impact Of Pandemic On Telehealth: Mental Wellness

Mental health issues grew multifold owing to the pandemic. People were stuck in their homes, doing home and office work like never before and at the same time dealing with a pandemic that was costing life. Counselors witnessed a new wave of emotional distress along with COVID waves.

Every 3 in 10 people showed symptoms of depression and other mental illnesses. In these times, instead of in-facility visits, people focused on therapy and counseling via video calls. Multiple new applications introduced therapy as a part of their fitness regime. Existing mental wellness apps also saw growth. Rural residents who had less access to mental health [practitioners showed higher interest in telehealth solutions.

Many mental wellness apps used AI and machine learning to create an environment of customized support, even in the absence of a mental health practitioner. Technology acted as a savior in supporting people with mental health and substance abuse issues during COVID.
