Issues faced by Public Healthcare in India- Poor Health Infrastructure

1 Mins read

Various digital programs have been launched in the aftermath of Covid-19; however, the rapid digital revolution can alienate the rural population from receiving any benefits if it is not supported by an upgrade to infrastructure.

There is a dire need for more medica l colleges and more hospital beds in India. We’re also dealing with poor telecommunication infrastructure, inadequate fiber facilities, and slow internet speed. Above all, a shortage of manpower. Against WHO’s mandated 2.5 doctors for 1000 people, India’s ratio is an abysmal 0.7 to 1000.

To overcome these challenges, we need to develop human capital, reduce urban bias, and streamline operational processes to manage the patient load. We need standardized diagnostic procedures, more rural clinics, and up-to-date health IT systems. Additionally, we require indigenously produced medical equipment because the imported ones are quite costly. Better training facilities will result in a more competent workforce. And lastly, vigorous government investment in all these sectors to enhance overall infrastructure.
