Uses of Remote Patient Monitoring in Geriatric Care

1 Mins read

Many geriatric patients go through acute and chronic illnesses or injuries. Therefore, chronic disease management, safety monitoring as well as post-acute care management are three vital applications of Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) for the older population. The use of RPM in geriatric care can help in slowing down the progression of chronic diseases and ensure continued recovery after discharge from an acute care setting. Hence, employing RPM can improve the quality of life for older adults by:

–           Alerting caregivers when a vulnerable older adult is injured

–           Lowering the use of emergency hospital services by older adults

–           Enabling geriatric patients to live independently in their choice of setting

–           Diminishing the need for older patients to move into high-cost care facilities

–           Decreasing the workload and unburdening formal or informal caregivers

–           Combating the shortage of care professionals in assisted living facilities –           Improving the quality of care
